‘All I did was make small talk’: Landlord's wife goes ‘unhinged’ on tenant for high school-level drama, tenant has enough and starts packing

The rent is too high these days to be forced into petty drama.

  • Seriously, guys, if you are renting, you really shouldn't put up with anything. Like, if your landlord's wife is forcing you into stupid high school-level drama, then just move. Move out. You pay way too much in rent to also have to deal with petty things like that. And that's exactly what this one tenant is doing. 

    He is renting a room and is fine with his landlord. However, his landlord's wife is “unhinged." She's constantly pulling him into drama and overreacting to things that have nothing to do with this tenant. He casually mentioned to his landlord how his roommate was upsetting him. Drama that he can deal with on his own as a tenant and had planned to. But the landlord's wife had other plans. Apparently, the landlord mentioned it to his wife and she went bonkers over it. So the tenant called the actual landlord to diffuse the situation and tell him to please do not include his wife in this situation. This made the wife even more unhinged and she went off, even sending a Karen-level text. 

    So do you know what the tenant did? He told them he's moving out. Sorry, rent is too expensive to also deal with any of that crud. Bye!

She blew up because I was talking to my landlord about my other roommate leaving the gate open so the dogs kept and peeing back in the hallway by my room.     It's just too much. All I did was make small talk about it with my landlord, and I guess he said something to her, and she called me up screaming and then hung up. Didn't even want to listen or talk. I then called my landlord and was trying to speak with him, and I guess she grabbed the phone from him or something put me on speaker then started yelling again. Log every single interaction you have with this woman, if you live in a One Party consent state, record her every time she calls you or talks to you in person, I'm sure you're not the only tenant that she has done this to and if you don't stick up for yourself it will happen to others. Lot of landlords seem to think that the way to avoid having bad tenants is to be that bad themselves toward everybody. There's so much illegal going on in the rental market, it's hard to believe.     Agitated Tomatos OP. 3d ago She just drives me to the store sometimes. So, like costco because I don't have a car at the moment. Otherwise, I don't really interact with her or my landlord a whole lot. Just passing small talk. Like, I don't really go out with them a lot. Maybe 2 times a month just for me to go to the store. Would try to dictate tenants lives, charge a fortune for a small for studio (that didn't have heating, water, and was mostly unfinished. carpet was half ripped up, walls were half done, etc). landlords are the worst but it seems female landlords are another breed of control freak ☆ 1 3 Reply
